Teeth Whitening FAQ


Teeth Whitening, also known as Bleaching.

This patient used a take home tray system, these [ Tooth Comparison ] results were seen in three weeks. Please note the "D2" color guide tooth which shows the before color of the tooth in comparison to the after whitening photo.

We also offer an in-office bleaching treatment for those who don't wish to do the process on there own.

: "If I am pregnant or nursing, should I have this treatment?"
A: "There is no known hazard associated with whitening teet while pregnant or nursing. However, consult your physician and your dentist for more specific recommendations."
Q: "Can tooth whitening hurt my gums?"
A: "Substantial clinic and laboratory research has shown that with proper use, tooth whitening gels have no adverse effect on teeth."
Q: "Can tooth whitening hurt my gums?"
A: "Overfilled trays, excessive tray wear, or an ill-fitting tray can cause irritation. When used correctly, tooth whitening gels have no adverse effect and often improve the health of gum tissue.
Q: "Are there any side effects?"
A: "Some patients experience temporary tooth sensitivity to hot and cold. This usually occurs in the first week. Your dentist can offer options to alleviate this condition."
Q: "Will this affect my crowns or filling?"
A: "No. Tooth whitening will not affect fillings, crowns or toooth colored restorations. Occasionally, amalgam fillings may leave a harmless grey residue in your tray."
Q: "How is this different from TV and over the counter products?"
A: "Your treatment will be under the supervision of your dentist using a custom tray made from a model of your teeth. Also, some over-the-counter products contain harmful acids or abrasives which can damage your teeth or gums.
